Ok, this might not be to helpfull for driving around the island, but it's a really neat picture taken by Capt. Don from the space shuttle --He sure gets around! (The curvature of the Earth has shifted the prespective. Kauai is NOT bigger than Hawaii) |
The main highway of Kauai runs around the island in a ring broken by Wiama canyon. If you are coming from the south shore, head east towards Lihue. If you are on the North or East shore, take the highway South to Lihue.

From the North: Take 56 south until you reach Rice Street. Turn left until you meet up with 51. From the South Shore: Take the main highway (Called 50) towards Lihue. Before you get to town, turn off to the right (sort of SouthEast) onto 58 (Nawiliwili Road). | |
From the North: Take 51 south until you split off at Wilcox. This meets up with Waapa Road, which you should take right (West) along the waterfront. The Parking for the Small Boat Harbor is there.
From the South Shore: Follow Nawiliwili Road until the highway splits left, and Nawiliwili goes right. Stay right. This will end at the Small Boat Harbor, with parking right there for you. If you have trouble finding the place, please call Captain Don's cell phone at 808-639-3012. |
